The King, on account of the particular devotion which he bore towards the Blessed Virgin Mary, patron of the cathedral church of Aberdeen, and on account of the special favour, zeal and love which he had towards William of Elphinstone, then bishop [...] he has ratified and, with the consent of his council, newly confirmed in mortmain all gifts, foundations, etc., made before by his predecessors, or by other lords or barons or whatever other persons, to the bishops and prelates and to the cathdral church of Aberdeen. The King makes Old Aberdeeen a free burgh in barony, with the right to buy and sell, etc., and to have a market and a cross and have a market day every week on Monday and public fairs every year, one on Maundy Thursday and the other on St Luke's day and for its octave.

Rex, pro singulari devotione quam gessit erga B. V. M., patronam ecclesie cathedralis Abirdonensis, ac pro speciali favore, zelo et dilectione quos habuit erga Willelmum de Elphinstoun tunc ejusdem episcopum [...] ratificavit et, cum consensu concilii sui, de novo ad manum mortuam confirmavit omnes donationes, fundationes, etc., per predecessores suos, sive per alios dominos aut barones vel quascunque alias personas prius factas, episcopis et prelatis ac ecclesie Cathedrali Aberdonensi [. . .] et fecit eandem Civitatem et villam de le Ald Aberdone in unum liberum burgum in baronia . Concessit eciam Rex inhabitantibus etc. plenariam potestatem emendi et vendendi etc. et dicto episcopo et suis successoribus potestatem annuatim ballivos serjandos et alios officiarios pro regimine eiusdem burgi necessarios eligendi e quod sint burgenses in eisdem et quod crucem et forum habeant et teneant et diem fori singulis ebdomadis in die Lune et nundinas publicas singulis annis unam uidelicet in Cena Domini ante Pascham vulgariter nuncupata Skyre Thurisday aliam vero in die Sancti Luce Evangeliste et per octavas eiusdem cum tholoneis etc.
