dedication text (summary) dedication text (verbatim)Master John Spalding, Dean of Brechin and prebendary of Melek, to the praise and glory of God Almighty, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Blessed Catherine the virgin, as well as all the heavenly court of saints has freely granted to God and all the abovermentioned saints, and to the chaplains in the choir of Brechin cathedral, the two marks of annual ret in Scots money yearly owed to me from the tenement in the burgh of Dundee. The said annual rents are to be held in pure alms, to be rendered to the chaplain yearly for as long as the donor lives, at the altar of Saint Catherine the virgin, on all Thursdays there is to be a sung mass with four chaplains from the office of the health of the people with one collect for the prosperity of the donor, with another collect of Saint Catherine witha third collect for the souls of all the faithful departed.
