Description
There is no ancient cult, no mention in early martyrologies, no early works of art. Her cult began in the ninth century at Mount Sinai. Her legend makes her a noble girl, persecuted for her Christianity, who despised marriage with the Emperor because she was a 'bride of Christ'; she protested against the persecution of Christians by Maxentius, was tortured on a wheel, and died by be-heading. (ODS, 95.)
