The king has confirmed in mortmain a charter of his clerk, Thomas Lauder, canon of Aberdeen, and Master of the Hospital of Soutre, diocese of St Andrews, by which, for the salvation of King James I, etc., he granted and founded, for the maintenance of one chaplain at the altar of St Martin and St Thomas in the church of Blessed Giles, Edinbugh, and for the maintenance of the furnishings of that altar, annual revenue of 6 marks; 40 s.; 20 s.; and 26s. 8d., from certain tenements situated in the royal street in the burgh of Edinburgh and in the southern street of the same burgh, commonly called 'Cowgate'.

Rex ad manum mortuam confirmauit cartam clerici sui M. Thome de Lawedre, canonici Aberdonen, ac magistri hospitalis de Soltre S. And. dioc., qua pro saulte animarum Iac. [I] Regis, &c., concessit ac fundauit pro sustentatione unius capellani ad altare B. Martini et B. Thome in Ecclesia Beati Egidii de Edinburgh, et ad sustentationem ornamentorum eiusdem altaris, annuos redditus 6 merc., 40 sol., 20 sol, ac 26 sol 8 den. de certis tenementis in uia regia burgi de Edinburghe et in uia australi eiusdem burgi uulgariter seu antiquitus Cowgate nuncupata, situatis.
