dedication text (summary) dedication text (verbatim)William de Abernethy, knight, in contemplation of God and the honour of the Glorious Virgin Mary, gives and grants to God, the church of St Mary and the abbot and convent of Dryburgh, two merks of annualrent, for the sustentation of the light for the Masses of St Mary to be celebrated in the said church, to be received annually from the fruits of his mill of Oxton ('Ulkestoun'). He also ordains that from the said money sufficient wax should be had specially in front of the image of the Blessed Virgin in the choir of the said church. He promises to pay the said annualrent at the feast of the Purification of St Mary.

Noveritis quod ego intuitu Dei et honoris gloriose virginis Marie et pro salute anime mee antecessorum et successorum amicorum et familiarium meorum do et concedo Deo et ecclesie sancte Marie et abbati et conventui de Driburgh duas marcas annui redditus ad sustentationem luminis in missis sancte Marie in dicta ecclesia celebrandis recipiendas annuatim de fructibus molendini mei de Ulkestoun ad quoscunque dicti fructus devenerint . Et volo et ordino quod de dicta pecunia sufficiens habeatur cereus specialiter coram ymagine beate Virginis in choro dicte ecclesie .
