The image of Our Lady of Pity, weighing 120 ounces of silver, given by Master Andrew Lyell, treasurer of Aberdeen as an offering to the high altar on the day of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1499. William, bishop of Aberdeen has ordered that the said image be carried honorifically around the cathedral church of Aberdeen on the feast days of the glorious Virgin. Forty days of indulgences are granted to all those who go in procession on the said days or who follow it devotedly.
