dedication text (summary) dedication text (verbatim)John Mair, senior, burgess of Aberdeen, in honour of Almighty God, of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of all the heavenly court, for the welfare of the souls of himself and his spouse, Margaret Moir, etc, grants to the chaplains of the choir of the church of St Nicholas, two annual rents, viz: one of 20 s from a burgage land on the south of the Shiprow with the Holy Trinity burn on the south, and the other of 8 s from a burgage land on the west of the Gallowgate. In return the chaplains are to celebrate an anniversary and obsequies, namely, placebo and dirige on the Saturday before the second Sunday of Lent during the granter's life, and after his decease on the day thereof, and a Mass de nota on the Sunday following, with trental Masses during the ensuing week, at the altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary within the parish church of St Nicholas of Aberdeen, for the souls of the granter, etc; the procurator of the chaplains distributing the amount as follows: to a crier for summoning the people to pray for the said souls, 2 d; to the sacrist for ringing the church bells thrice on the Saturday and the Sunday, 14 d; to himself to meet the cost of a table with proper covering and wax candles above the granter's tomb, 2 s; to the poor, on the said Saturday, 4 s; to the chaplains, 20 s 8 d.
