dedication text (summary) dedication text (verbatim)A discreet man, sir John Litster, chaplain of the parish church of St Nicholas of Aberdeen, left after his decease (unless any necessity compelled him otherwise) a certain breviary written on parchment to one fit chaplain, viz: first, to his kinsman promoted to be priest, for the whole time of his life or residence within the burgh of Aberdeen; whom failing, to another fit chaplain, and so successively as one deceases to another remaining in the said town, who shall thereafter make prayers to God for his salvation, etc, as is set forth with greater fulness in the said book.
DISCRETUS vir dominus Iohannes litster capellanus ecclesie parochialis beati nicholaij de Aberdene post decessum suum nisi cogente necessitate legauit quoddam breuiarium in pergameno scriptum vnj capellano ydoneo videlicet primo consanguineo suo in sacerdotem promoto pro toto tempore vite sue residenti infra dictum burgum quo deficiente alteri ydoneo capellano et sic successiue vno decidente alteri capellano in eodem opido remanenti faciendo inde diuina suffragia pro salute sue etc prout in dicto libro lacius titulatur
