On 29 May 1450 there appeared in person, in the presence of the alderman and bailies of the burgh, Marjory, widow of the late Alexander Fraser, burgess of this burgh, who acknowledged that the said late Alexander, her husband, for the salvation of his soul and in honour of the Blessed Mary the glorious virgin, gave, granted and assigned to the altar of the Blessed Mary, situated in the parish church of St Nicholas of this burgh, and to the chaplain who was celebrating divine service there at the time, an annualrent of 5 merks to be uplifted annually from a certain land of Alexander lying in the 'vico Furcarum' in the New Row between the land of William Fotheringham on the south part and the common royal way on the south [sic] part with pertinents; with Alexander reserving to himself and Marjory, and the longest living of them, a free tenement of the said annualrent for the whole time of his life. Marjory is now resigning this for the benefit of the whole community and the said altar.
