Among the major churches of Edinburgh, the collegiate church of St Giles, built in the middle of the Royal Way, holds first place after the outstanding basilica of the monastery. Then in the street which divides Edinburgh from the Canongate and suburb, is the magnificent church called the Queen's College within the Walls. Then situated between the monasteries of the Franciscans and the Dominicans is the church of [St] Mary of the Field, where there is also a college of priests. And under the Castle ['Citadel of the Maidens''] rock, the new parish of St Cuthbert is situated.

Inter majores ecclesias Edinburgi, post monasterii eximiam basilicam, primum locum tenet collegiata ecclesia S. Egidii, constructa in medio Regiae Viae.
