Copy of great seal charter registered on back of present account. Charter, dated 22 February 1494, whereby king grants lands of the island of Burray to the church of Orkney for celebrating certain divine suffrages. Grant is in honour of God, and the glorious queen Mary His mother, and St Magnus the Martyr, patron of the cathedral church of Orkney, and All Saints, and for the special devotion which we bear towards the glorious Martyr St Magnus. The divine suffrages include a daily Mass at the altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a Mass for the holy blood and body of Christ at the altar of the same within the said cathedral church.

Jacobus Dei gracia rex Scotorum, omnibus probis hominibus tocius terre sue clericis et laicis salutem. Sciatis nos in laudem et gloriam Dei Omnipotentis, sue gloriose passionis, ac beatissime et gloriosissime regine et matris sue Marie, et Sancti Magni Martiris, patroni ecclesie cathedralis Orkadensis, et Omnium Sanctorum, et pro speciali devocione quam gerimus erga eundem gloriosum Martirem Sanctum Magnum [. . .] unam videlicet missam diuturnalem per capellanum et quatuor juvenes congruentibus habitibus indutos ad altare Beate Marie Virginis in ecclesie cathedrali Orkadensi cotidie cantando celebrandum [. . .] Terciam itaque missam de sacro cruore et corpore Cristi ad altare ejusdem infra dictam ecclesiam cathedralem per capellanos chori antedicti omni die Jovis cantando celebrari faciant [. . .]
