Description
Máedóc [Aidan] (fl. 7th cent.). Feast day is 31 January. Reputed founder of the church of Ferns (co. Wexford) and patron of Drumlane (co. Cavan) and Rossinver (co. Leitrim). His name, Mo-Áed-óc, means ‘my little Áed’; he is also known as Aidan. He appears to be commemorated on 31 January in the Aberdeen Breviary as Modoci episcopi et confessoris; he is not provided with proper lections, but is associated with Kilmodok, where he is said to be celebrated. See C. Doherty, 'Leinster, Saints of', ODNB for further references.
