Description
St Mirin or Merinus, is commemorated in the Aberdeen Breviary on 15 September, where it is said that he is venerated with great honour in the monastery of Paisley. The lections in his office in the Aberdeen Breviary make him a disciple of St Comgall who became a monk at Bangor. Although he is commemorated as a bishop, no mention is made of his episcopate in the Aberdeen lections, nor is there any suggestion that he founded a church at Paisley. Rather, it is merely said that, 'At length, full of miracles and sanctity, Mirin slept in the Lord at Paisley', in whose honour the church is dedicated.
