- Description
- Also Cyricus; Giric in Ireland and Curig in Wales. Usually commemorated with Julitta, his supposed mother. Both are said to have been martyred at Tarsus. Cyricus appears in 8th-c. frescoes at S. Maria Antiqua, Rome. The cult has strong connections with France, where Amator, a 4th-c. bishop of Auxerre, brought back relics from Antioch. SS. Cyr and Julitte are the patrons of Nevers cathedral. Giric is commemorated on July 16 in the Martyrology of Oengus the Culdee, but on August 8 in other medieval kalendars, including the Aberdeen Breviary. [ODS, 131-2.]
