Description
Ciarán mac Luaigne, bishop and patron of Ossory, was imagined as flourishing in the 5th cent. His main foundation was the great church of Saigir (Seir Kieran). He is commemorated on 5 March in the martyrology of Oengus and he is often referred to as ‘sen’, old, Ciarán to differentiate him from his namesake, Ciarán of Clonmacnoise, the founder of Clonmacnoise.
