Description
From Adomnán’s Life of St Columba we may infer that Colmán Elo spent part of his earlier life in Scotland, in association with St Columba. Adomnán speaks of his returning to Ireland in the year of Columba’s death (597). Adomnán refers to him as a ‘holy bishop’. His death is recorded under 611 in the Annals of Ulster, and commemorated on 26 September in the Martyrology of Oengus. Also found in the Perth Psalter (Edinburgh, NLS, MS. 652, ca1475) at 26 September, and not in the Aberdeen Breviary. [Kenney, Sources, 399-400, Anderson, Early Sources, 109.]
