Item, the alderman, bailies, and the whole council advisedly has given and granted to William Shearer and to master Duncan Shearer, his son, the patronage of St Duthac's altar, situated in the parish church of St Nicholas of this burgh, and failing of the foresaid William and Master Duncan to Andrew Shearer and Alexander Shearer, his brother, and to their heirs male, for which they are obliged with the grace of God to enfeoff the said altar with 10 merks of the usual money of Scotland perpetually in all possible haste. And failing of the foresaid William, Master Duncan, Andrew, and Alexander, and their heirs male, the said patronage to return again to the gift of the alderman, bailies, council and community of the said burgh.
