- The which day, the reverend lord, Master John Dingwall, protonotary of the apostolic see, archdeacon of Caithness, etc, and perpetual vicar of the church of St Nicholas of Aberdeen, wishing in all things, and from his inmost heart striving, that the divine service for the worship, laud, veneration, and honour of Almighty God and of St Nicholas the patron of the said church, be in the said church devoutly and lovingly celebrated and sung, and desiring some practices prevalent among the chaplains and ministers of the choir of the foresaid church to be reformed, humbly and earnestly requested a venerable and excellent man, Master Alexander Hay, canon and commissary-general of Aberdeen, that he with authority of the ordinary would confirm certain statutes made unanimously by the said vicar and chaplains of the choir aforesaid, and sanction them by certain penalties - of which statutes the tenor follows [. . .] Which statutes, as being consonant to reason, and tending at the same time to the glory of God and of St Nicholas, the said lord commissary with authority of the ordinary approved, affirmed, and ratified [. . .]
