- The quhilk day, forsamekle as my Lord Governour and Lordis of Counsale ar advertist, that our auld inemeis of Ingland ar in ane reddynes with navy of Inglis schippis to cum and invaid the realme, and to land upon sum partis of the samin, and to birne, hery, sla, and distroy the liegis of the samin, lik as thai have done in tymes bypast; and to the effect that this realme and liegis thairof may be reddy to resist unto thame, it is divisit, statute, and ordanit that bales be set and kepit apoun the nycht apoun the places following for advertisment to be maid to our Soverane Ladyis liegis: That is to say the first baill to be maid and kepit apoun Sanctabbis heid, the secund baile to be maid and kepit apoun the Dowhill aboun Fascastell [. . .]; and for making and kepyng of the saidis bailis, and that my Lord Governour sall nocht be defraudit thairthrow, it is thocht necessar and expedient that Schir George Douglas of Pettindrecht, Knycht, sall have the cure and keping of the said first baile at Sanctabbis heid [. . .] And in cais that the saidis inemeis of Ingland happynnis to cum and invaid this realme apoun day lycht and for advertisment thairof, and that our Soverane Ladyis liegis may be in ane reddynes to await thairupoun, it is thocht expedient as said is, that the saidis personis respective have post horsis ilk ane of thame for thair awin part, at the bailis forsaidis, to await apoun the incuming of our saidis inemeis, and the samin postis to depart fra the baile of Sanctabbis heid to the Lard of Restalrig and uthairis, keparis of the said Castell of Fascastell and kepar of the said baile of Dowhill aboun Fascastell [. . .]
