notes
This charter is problematic to date as it is placed among the charters for David II in the printed volume but the granter is Thomas de Perth, called Bell, who, according to Watt and Murray,Fasti, 62 was precentor of Dunkeld 1259-1275. There they refer to Scone Liber, 124-5 for surname as 'Perth dictus Bell'. The witnesses include William, bishop of St Andrews, who could be William Wishart (1271-79) and Christian de Insula, sheriff of Perth - there is a sheriff of that name before 1279 in Reid and Barrow, Sheriffs of Scotland, 35. This would suggest that the charter should be dated to before 1279.
