The obit of the late Alexander Reid of Pitfoddels of good memory, some time provost of this burgh, who died the next to last day of February in 1506, and of Margaret Crawford, his spouse, founded by the said Margaret after the death of the same Alexander. The anniversary of these two shall be celebrated annually at the altar of St Christopher on the Sunday after 1 March, with Placebo and Dirige on the Saturday preceding, a sung Mass on the Sunday, and trental of Masses throughout the week by the curate and chaplains of the same college. And the collector of the said chaplains for the time being shall cause the crier with the smaller bell to go round the whole town on the said Saturday (calling) to prayer for the foresaid souls; shall place a table on their monument, cover the same with a decent pall, and find wax lights. And the sacristan shall cause toll (the bells) of the said burgh thrice at the office and thrice at the sung requiem Mass, as the use is. Moreover, the said curate and chaplains shall sing and celebrate another sung Mass with another trental of Masses after the decease of the said Margaret at the altar where she happens to be buried, as is contained at more length on the preceding leaf. For which the said curate and chaplains are infeft in an annual rent of 20 s from the land of David Theman, goldsmith in the Castle street.
