Sir John Smyth, monk of Kinloss, who wrote this book . . .died in 1557 on 17 December, aged 65, and was buried near both of his parents in front of the door of the chapel of SS Laurence and Bernard, where he used to celebrate divine service when he was alive.

Dominus Johannes Smyth, monachus a Kynlos, qui hunc librum scripsit, vir honestissimus, vite integritate, sueque religionis zelator nulli (quod absque invidia dictum sit) secundus, [obiit] anno domini 1557, et 17 Decembris, etatis vero sue 65, atque sepultus prope utrumque parentem ante ostium sacelle sanctorum Laurentii et Bernardi, ubi ipse vivens sacrificari solebat.
