In 1528, on 1 July, there was an unaccustomed deluge of water in Kinloss, in such a way that it overflowed the garden of the kitchen, of the mill, and other places, but in that year, on the translation of St Benedict it increased unexpectedly so that water filled the refectory, the chapter house, the cloister and other workshops . . .

Anno domini Mo vc xxviijo, primo die Julii, facta est inundacio aque in Kynlos insolita, ita ut superflueret hortum coquine, molendini, et quosdam alios, sed in eodem anno in translacione sancti Benedicti inopinate excessit, ita ut aqua impleret refectorium, capitulum, claustrum, et alias officinas, ita ut nunquam tale quid prius visum fuerit in hoc loco, et ustrinum devastaret, et brasium in eodem madefaceret, et usui solito ineptum redderet.
