Duke of Albany Robert Stewart Male Royal (other) 100 c. 1340-1419, Regent of Scotland, 1406-1419. Son of King Robert II, and brother of King Robert III and Alexander Stewart. Created Duke of Albany, 1398. Murdered his nephew, the Duke of Rothesay, heir to the throne. Became regent on death of Robert III in 1406, during the minority and English captivity of James I (his nephew). Albany ruled as 'Governor of the kingdom of Scotland' until his death.
