Malcolm Palgoveny and Duncan, merchant, burgesses of Aberdeen send greetings. Because the community of the burgh of Aberdeen has granted to us and our heirs all the lands and rents which Master Richard Cementarius, once burgess of Aberdeen, gave and granted for the salvation of his soul and those of Helen his spouse and all the faithful, to God, the Blessed Mary and to the altar of St John the apostle and evangelist in the church of St Nicholas of Aberdeen . . .whereby we will find a suitable chaplain to serve at the said altar for 5 merks' annuity, and books, lights, and all other ornaments for the said altar and also half a merk annually, namely half to the light before the cross in the said church and the other half to the light of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the same church. The annual rents which they grant for these purposes are then specified. The charter is dated on the Wednesday following the feast of the apostles Peter and Paul in 1294.

Quia communitas burgi de Aberden vnanimiter concessit inperpetuum nobis et heredibus nostris omnes terras et redditus quos magister Ricardus cementarius quondam burgensis de Aberden in sua prosperitate dedit et contulit pro salute anime sue Elene sponse sue et omnium fidelium Deo et beate Marie et altari beati Johannis apostoli et evangeliste in ecclesia beati Nicholai de Aberden . prout in carta collationis predicti magistri Ricardi plenius continetur quam cartam penes nos habemus sub hac forma . quod nos et heredes nostri inueniemus quemdam ydoneum capellanum inperpetuum dicto altari pro quinque marcis annuis deseruiturum . et inueniendo honeste libros luminaria et omnia cetera ornamenta ad dictum altare de jure spectantia et etiam dimidiam marcam annuam scilicet unam medietatem luminari ante crucem in dicta ecclesia et aliam medietatem luminari beate Marie Virginis in eadem ecclesia {. . .} In cuius rei testimonium presentibus literis sigilla nostra apponi fecimus . datum apud Aberden die Mercurij proximo post festum apostolorum Petri et Pauli anno gratie Mo .
