dedication text (summary) dedication text (verbatim)On 22 March in the foresaid year [1444], John Trail, son and heir of the late David Trail, burgess of this burgh, asked to be shown officially by the bailies the lands pertaining to himself by hereditary law, as is the custom in burghs. At once, Duncan de Clat, then one of the bailies of this burgh, went with him to a certain land lying within the said burgh in the Booth Row between the land of John Gray on the south part and the land of Thomas Blyndseil on the north part. And it is to be noted that that land is half a particate and it pays 6 s 8 d annually to the altar of the Holy Cross. And also to a certain land lying on the west part of the Ship Row between the land of John Reid on the north part and the land of Henry Sclater on the south part and [Duncan] instructed him about these in the presence of witnesses, as is the custom, etc.

Et memorandum quod ista terra est dimidia particate et inde solvit annuatim altari Beate Crucis vj s' viij d'; et ad quamdam terram jacentem ex parte occidentali de ly Schipraw inter terram Johannis Rede ex parte boreali et terram Henrici Sclatare ex parte australi et docuit eum coram testibus ad easdem ut moris est, etc.
