The quhilk day, forsamekill as the haill clergy, prelattis, and beneficit men of this realme laitlie grantit to my Lord Governour, for the furth bering of our Soverane Ladys autorite and repressing of faltouris, and for diverse uthairis caussis, the soum of xxv c li to be payit be thame to his Grace at the feist of Midsomer last bipast, and the soume of xxv c li at the feist of Sanctandro nix to cum lik as in the act maid thairupoun is at mair lenth contenit, and now the prelattis and kirkmen abone writtin, haifand respect to the effaris of this realme presentlie occurrand, and in speciale that our auld ynemeis of Ingland hes be way of deid takin the places of Sanctcolmisinche, the craig and place of Bruchty, the place of Hume, and Aldroxburgh, and hes ranforsit the samin, and biggit fortalices and strenthis thairintill, and daylie and continualie perseveris in thair bigging and ranforsing of the saidis places quhilkis may engenner ane greit inconvenient without the samyn be haistelie remedit, and for recovering thairof furth of thair handis, the saidis prelattis and beneficit men abone writtin hes instantlie avansit to my said Lord Governour to the effect forsaid, thair partis of the said Androismesse terme togidder with the rest of the last Midsomer terme awand be thaim, and promittis to pay the samyn now incontinent in hand, and thairfor exhortis and prayis the remanent of the prelattis and beneficit men of this realme that ar awand ony rest of the last Midsomer terme, and siclik that aucht to pay the next Androismess terme, that thai and ilk ane of thaim for thair awin part, awanse now instantlie incontinent the said taxt and pay the samin in hand to the effect forsaid for the caussis abonewrittin, and in likwyse ordanis lettres to be direct heirupoun as efferis, and gif ony inferiouris . . . . beneficit men refuise to mak payment of the said taxt incontinent in maner forsaid, exhortes and prayis thair ordinaris to direct thairupon lettres in the maist scharp forme, for inbringing of the said taxt incontinent for performing of the premissis. The samyn day, ane reverend fader in God, Johnne Bischop of Dunkeld and the remanent of the kirkmen abonewrittin understandand the place of Sanctcolmisinche is laitlie takin be our auld ynemeis of Ingland, and that thai now instantlie are biggand and ranforsand the samin, and without the samin be hastelie persewit and recoverit furth of thair handis, thair may follow greit inconvenientis to the realme quhilkis may nocht be weill heirefter ramedit, Thairfor ordanis the Abbot of Sanctcolmisinche to content and pay to my Lord Governour the sum of five hundredth pundis usuale money of this realme off the reddiest fruttis of the said abbacy of this instant yeir and crop, to fee wageouris and men of weir for recovering of the said place furth of the handis of our saidis auld ynemyis, becaus his Grace hes instantlie debursit the samyn befoir hand to the effect forsaid, and ordanis the said Abbot and his convent religious men be honestlie stakit and furnist as efferis in the places of Sanctandrois, Arbroath, Scone, Lundoris, Dunfermling, Paslay, Cambuskynneth, and sik uthairis religious places as salbe thocht expedient to put thaim in to for this yeir.
